Shipping & Logistics

Steering: Only right-hand (RHD). Left-hand drive is allowed only for special equipment or transit.
Ports: Dar es Salaam (RoRo and container), with delivery by road to Arusha, Mwanza, Mbeya and Zanzibar. Mombasa (Kenya) is also used for northern Tanzania.
Inspection: Pre-shipment inspection in Japan (TBS PVoC) by an authorised agent such as EAA is mandatory.

Customs & Costs

Clearance: Payment of duties to TRA (Tanzania Revenue Authority), declaration is issued.
Registration: Obtaining Logbook (certificate of registration) and license plates.

Age & Import Restrictions (CRITICAL)

Age Limit: No age ban. Under the Finance Act 2026 (from 1 July 2026) excise duty depends on the age of the vehicle: 18% for vehicles older than 8 and up to 10 years, 35% for 10 to 20 years, 40% for over 20 years.
